Christmas memory verses for kids (with games to learn them)

Ten Christmas Bible verses worth learning by heart, matched to age groups, plus five games that make memorising them fun.

Updated 1 November 2026 · How we pick resources

A memory verse is the part of a Christmas lesson children can carry home. Pick one verse per Sunday of Advent, or one for the whole month for younger classes. Verses are quoted from the NIV; check them against the translation your church uses.

Five games to learn a memory verse

1. Disappearing verse (ages 5+)

Write the verse on a whiteboard. Read it together, then erase one word. Read it again, erase another, and keep going until the class can say it with a blank board.

2. Verse scramble (ages 6+)

Write each word on a separate card and hand them out. Children race to stand in the right order. With two teams, use two colours of card and race.

3. Pass the star (ages 4–8)

Children sit in a circle and pass a paper star, each saying the next word of the verse. Whoever says the reference at the end ("Luke two eleven!") gets to start the next round.

4. Actions verse (ages 3–6)

Give each phrase a hand motion: rocking arms for "child is born", a pointing-up finger for "God", arms wide for "the world". Preschoolers remember the motions first and the words follow.

5. Verse builder on screen (ages 6+)

Our Bible Puzzle Pieces game has a verse builder mode where teams drag word pieces into order against a timer, plus a Nativity story-order puzzle.
