Christmas Sundays are busy: rehearsals, visitors, and kids buzzing with excitement. A good game channels that energy into the story. Below are games you can run with almost nothing, sorted by age, followed by ready-made resources if you'd rather download something.

Nativity freeze frame (ages 3–8)
Read Luke 2:1–20 slowly. Each time you say a character's name (Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels, sheep), the children strike that pose and freeze: Mary rocking a baby, Joseph leading a donkey, shepherds leaning on staffs, angels with arms raised. Anyone who moves before you say "Glory to God!" (Luke 2:14) sits out for one round. Read it a second time faster.
Shepherds, sheep and angels (ages 3–7)
A "Simon says" for little ones. Call "Shepherds!" (everyone pretends to hold a staff), "Sheep!" (crawl and baa), or "Angels!" (stand tall, arms up, and say "Do not be afraid!", Luke 2:10). When you call "The baby is sleeping!", everyone must lie down silently. Finish by asking: who told the shepherds the good news?
Christmas story in order (ages 5–11)
Write one scene per index card: Gabriel visits Mary · Joseph has a dream · The trip to Bethlehem · Jesus is born and laid in a manger · Angels appear to shepherds · The shepherds visit · Wise men follow the star · The family escapes to Egypt. Shuffle the cards and let teams race to put them in order. For older kids, add the Bible references (Luke 1:26–38, Matthew 1:18–25, Luke 2:1–7, Luke 2:8–14, Luke 2:15–20, Matthew 2:1–12, Matthew 2:13–15) and have them match each card to its verse.
Who said it? (ages 6–12)
Read a line and let teams guess the speaker:
- "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God." (Gabriel, Luke 1:30)
- "I am the Lord's servant." (Mary, Luke 1:38)
- "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened." (the shepherds, Luke 2:15)
- "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?" (the Magi, Matthew 2:2)
- "Go and search carefully for the child." (King Herod, Matthew 2:8)
- "My eyes have seen your salvation." (Simeon, Luke 2:30)
Wording varies a little between Bible translations, so read from the one your church uses.
Follow the star (ages 3–10)
Hide a paper star somewhere in the room while the children cover their eyes. Give "warmer, colder" clues until someone finds it. Whoever finds it hides it next. Between rounds, ask one question about the Magi: who did they follow, what gifts did they bring (gold, frankincense and myrrh, Matthew 2:11), and who did they worship?
Christmas gift pass (ages 5–12)
Wrap a small prize in several layers, with a Christmas story question taped to each layer. Play music and pass the parcel; when the music stops, the child holding it answers the question and unwraps one layer. The free Christmas Bible trivia questions on this site work well for the layers.

Tips for a smooth Christmas class
- Mixed ages? Pair an older child with a younger one for sequencing and trivia. The older child reads; the younger one answers first.
- Visitors who don't know the story? Start with a two-minute retelling before any game, and choose cooperative games (freeze frame, star hunt) over competitive ones.
- Short on time? Christmas story in order takes 15 minutes and covers the whole story.
