Empty tomb hunt (ages 3–8)
Before class, put a folded white cloth inside a small box and roll a "stone" (a crumpled ball of grey paper) in front of it. Hide the box. Children search for "the tomb". When they find it, open it together: it's empty except for the folded cloth (John 20:6–7). Ask: who did the women look for? What did the angel say? ("He is not here; he has risen!", Matthew 28:6.)
Hosanna relay (ages 4–10)
Give each team a paper palm branch. One at a time, children run to a marker waving the branch and shouting "Hosanna!", then hand it to the next child. Finish by reading how the crowds welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:8–9; John 12:13).
Holy Week in order (ages 6–12)
Write one scene per card: Jesus rides into Jerusalem · Jesus clears the temple · The Last Supper · Praying in Gethsemane · Jesus is arrested · Peter denies Jesus · Jesus dies on the cross · The empty tomb. Teams race to put them in order. Older children can match each card to its passage (Matthew 21:1–11, Mark 11:15–17, Luke 22:7–20, Matthew 26:36–46, John 18:1–12, Luke 22:54–62, Luke 23:33–46, Luke 24:1–8).
Resurrection charades (ages 6–12)
Children act out a scene while their team guesses: washing feet (John 13:5), breaking bread, praying in the garden, Peter warming himself by the fire, rolling away the stone, Thomas touching Jesus' hands (John 20:27), walking to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–15).
He is risen! freeze (ages 3–7)
Children "sleep" on the floor like the sad disciples. When you say "He is risen!", everyone jumps up and shouts "He is risen indeed!" Anyone who jumps up too early sits out one round. Mix in tricky words ("He is… resting!") to keep it fun.
Who said it? (ages 7–12)
- "Hosanna to the Son of David!" (the crowds, Matthew 21:9)
- "Not my will, but yours be done." (Jesus in Gethsemane, Luke 22:42)
- "I don't know the man!" (Peter, Matthew 26:72)
- "What is truth?" (Pilate, John 18:38)
- "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said." (the angel, Matthew 28:6)
- "My Lord and my God!" (Thomas, John 20:28)
